The PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16 visuals are made up of the combined efforts of the HuC6260 Video Color Encoder and the HuC6270 Video Display Controller.
It provides support for:
- 1 Background Layer made of 4bpp (16 color) 8×8 tiles
- 1 Sprite Layer with support for up to 64 sprites, with 256 pixel line limit in 16×16, 16×32, 16×64, 32×16, 32×32, or 32×64 chunks.
- 9-bit color (512 colors)
- 16 16-color background palettes all sharing a common color at 0, for 241 background colors
- 16 16-color sprite palettes with color 0 being transparent, for 240 visible sprite colors
- Screen resolutions of 256×224 to 512×242
